Ask Coach Ha-Keem

Welcome to Ask Coach Ha‑Keem, where I unpack the questions leaders and everyday people have asked me throughout the years. This isn’t an advice column—it’s a perspective space. A place to rethink leadership, culture, and worth through a human‑first, heart‑centered lens.

Question (5/18/26): What does “worth” look like in my daily decisions?

Coach Ha-Keem’s perspective: Love this question. “Worth” isn’t just a feeling - it’s a decision. It’s choosing spaces and places where people recognize your value. I recently had an interaction with someone in which I said, “Go where you’re seen.” I watched them realize their worth in real time. That’s the moment everything changes. Worth it knowing your value - and never shrinking from it.

Question (5/03/26): How do I ask for a promotion?

Coach Ha-Keem’s perspective: This one feels straightforward on the surface - promotions start with asking. And, “You don’t get what you don’t ask for.” But underneath that is a conversation about value: the value you’ve created and the value you’re willing to claim. Start with the value you’ve brought and your readiness to articulate it. In my experience, generally, the worst that can happen is you hear “No” or “not at this time,” and even that teaches you something. The real question is: what’s stopping you from stepping into the conversation?

Question (4/25/26): How do I navigate a culture that says one thing but rewards another?

Coach Ha-Keem’s perspective: Let me know when we get to the easy questions! Phew! That’s a biggie! Unfortunately, this tension isn’t new. You’re describing what many cultures wrestle with: the gap between what is said and what is rewarded. We say we value people, but the scoreboard says something different. The real work is noticing how that contradiction shapes you - and deciding whether it still fits who you are. Sometimes, once we see it, we can’t unsee it. Awareness is the wake-up call. The next step is yours. “How do you want to navigate this, now that you see it clearly?”

Question (4/14/26): How do I rebuild my sense of worth after years of being undervalued at work?

Coach Ha-Keem’s perspective: That’s a tough one. What I'd suggest is starting by understanding what created that feeling and how it’s affected your confidence. But here’s the shift: simply asking this question is still letting someone else define your worth. Worth is internal work. The good news is, every day YOU get to decide the standards for your value and worth!
